मरुस्थल वाला स्थान गर्म होता है क्योंकि यहाँ मिटटी अधिक होती है और मिटटी गर्म होने से वातावरण अधिक गर्म रहता है जैसे राजस्थान।
मरुस्थल वाली जगह पर पानी की कमी रहती है क्योंकि वर्षा बहुत कम होती है जिससे यह सुखा रहता है और इसी वजह से यहाँ कम पेड़-पौधे पाए है।
दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा मरुस्थल सहारा मरुस्थल है। ये दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा गर्म मरुस्थल है। तापमान की बात करे तो 13 और 20 डिग्री सेल्सियस या 40 से 40 डिग्री तक रहता है।
भारत का सबसे बड़ा थार मरुस्थल है। इसका कुल क्षेत्रफल 238,254 km² है। इसका 61.11% भाग राजस्थान में आता है। जिनमे हनुमानगढ़,बीकानेर, जोधपुर, जैसलमेर और बाड़मेर मुख्य है।
रेगिस्तान में पैदल चलना बहुत मुश्किल होता है। इसमें केवल रेगिस्तानी जाहज ऊंट ही आसानी से चल सकता है, जो यहाँ आने जाने का एक मात्र साधन है।

जिस तरह समुंदर में लहरे चलती है ठीक उसी प्रकार रेगिस्तान में हवा की लहरे चलती है। जिससे रेगिस्तान की मिटटी पर लहरों के समान लकीरे बन जाती है।
