मदर टेरेसा का 26 August 1910 को स्कोप्जे, उत्तर मैसेडोनिया में हुआ था।
मदर टेरेसा के पिता का नाम निकोला बोयाजू और माता का नाम द्राना बोयाजू था।
मदर टेरेसा के कुल पांच भाईबहनों जिनमे मदर टेरेसा सबसे छोटी थीं इनका असली नाम अगनेस गोंझा बोयाजिजू था।
मदर टेरेसा बचपन से ही अध्ययनशील एवं परिश्रमी थी, इन्हें पढ़ाई के साथ, गाना बहुत पसंद था। वे गिरजाघर में मुख्य गायिकाएँ थीं।
ऐसा कहा जाता है की मात्र 12 की आयु में उनको अनुभव हुआ की उन्हें अपना पूरा जीवन मानव सेवा को समर्पित कर देना चाहिए।

मदर टेरेसा दलितों एवं पीडितों की सेवा बिना भेदभाव और पक्षपात के करती थी। वे तन, मन, धन से गरीबों की सेवा में लगी रहती थी। इसलिए उन्हें माँ का दर्जा मिला और उन्हें मदर टेरेसा कहा जाता है।
मदर टेरेसा को उनके निश्छल सेवा के लिए कई पुरुस्कार मिले जैसे:- पोपजान तेइसवें शांति पुरस्कार, देशिकोत्तम पदवी, ‘पद्म श्री’, डोक्टोरेट और नोबल पुरस्कार आदि जो विभिन्न देशो से मिले।
मदर टेरेसा ने कहा की संसार में मानव के लिए प्यार की भूख रोटी की भूख से कहीं बड़ी है क्योंकि रोटी केवल पेट भरती है मगर प्यार की भूख जीवन जीने और दुखो का सामना करने की ताकत देता है।
मदर टेरेसा लोगो की संतान की तरह मानव सेवा करती रही और 5 सितम्बर 1997 में 87 साल की उम्र में उनका निधन हो गया।
